# 8805 Title: Upcoming Presidential Elections (803)
Will
your voice be heard in Georgia presidential election next Tuesday?
Yes, but only if you cast your ballot. According to my friend Pat Wilder next Tuesday’s primaries
will be your only real chance to choose between those individuals who want to be your president.
Does it matter weather your voice is heard? Yes, it truly matters. You are those “We the People”
Gouverneur Morris was thinking about when he added the Preamble to the Constitution, the Preamble which begins with “We
the people of the United States.”
And unless “We the people of the United States” become involved in our government
“We the people” are in danger of loosing those precious freedoms and liberties “We the people” cherish
so much. Have “We the people” become so accustomed to our freedoms that we ignore the possibility they could be
lost? Yes, I think we have. They can be lost to those who conspire to return “We the people” to bondage and govern
according to Roman law where the ruler has total dominion over their subjects. History, including current history, is replete
with examples of those tyrants who treat their subjects as chattel.
The Revolutionary War was fought to restore those “unalienable Rights” – “Life,
Liberty,
and the Pursuit of Happiness” – our Creator endowed all mankind with. Jefferson found these unalienable rights had existed in the laws given
to Moses on Mt Sinai, laws that James called “the perfect laws of liberty” those laws which became the pattern
for America’s Constitution.
The Civil War was fought to make all Americans free. World War I and II were fought to restore freedom
to a world then being enslaved by tyrants. We are currently fighting a war on terrorism, against a people committed to destroying
America’s way of life, along with its precious freedoms. “Wars and rumors of wars” continue to plague the
world and we often wonder why. Most people would prefer to be left alone hoping those nasty problems would just go away. Seldom
do they think they may be a part of the problem by ignoring their responsibilities to our Constitution and the freedoms it
provides.
Mankind’s battle to be free is never ending. I am amazed with the clarity Moses spoke with to
the Israelites when he told them what would happen if they were obedient and what would happen if they were disobedient to
the commandments of their Jehovah. Unprecedented prosperity when the people are obedient to his commandments: disease, plagues,
oppression and destruction when they are disobedient.
I often wonder if Moses’ promises are applicable to us today. I think they are. The Lord reinforced
Moses’ words with: “I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also makes you free.
Nevertheless, when the wicked rule [We] the people mourn.” And via Moses, He told the people how to elect their leaders
and how to govern themselves with a government “of the people, by the people and for the people.” The Founders,
following Moses’ counsel, patterned America’s Constitution after those “perfect laws of liberty” Moses had established for
the Israelites.
Can America survive the current onslaught on its Constitution? We all hope it can, especially for the sake of
our children and grandchildren. And it will survive if a majority of “We the people” step up and become better
educated on how and why America was raised up to be become an ensign and beacon to freedom loving people worldwide. And it
became that mighty ensign and beacon to those millions who migrated to America over the past two centuries.
America has had many defining moments during the
past 232 years. Some believe this year’s election could be another defining
moment. Many are tired of the rhetorical charges and countercharges being made in this campaign. But as tired as we may get
of this rhetoric we must remember it is words that often lead to self-destruction. Remember Hitler’s words and how he
destroyed both a people and a nation.
But “We the people,” must cut through their rhetoric and determine where the candidates
want to take America under their leadership. Vote for freedom and liberty, not for meaningless promises that could return
America to the bondage it was subjected to under King George III.
Also remember the Founders rejected state religions and inserted in Article VI of the Constitution
words that states all elected officials “shall be bound by oath and Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no
religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
With religious issues being raised in this campaign America needs to elect the most qualified individual,
regardless of their religious beliefs, who will protect the ‘unalienable Rights” we Americans have enjoyed for
so long.
Vote wisely on Tuesday.
