Date: April 19, 2007 - # 916 – Tyranny begins with a thought (805)
Recent letters to the Tribune’s editor,
along with the subsequent news stories regarding the recent resignation of a member of two important and influential county
committees greatly intrigued me, as did the Tribune’s editorial regarding a district attorney’s handing of the
Duke Lacrosse Rape Case in North Carolina.
My interest in these two stories relate to the implications they have on what is happening all across America –
an overt attack on the very fabric of America’s freedoms by subverting the principles embedded in the Constitution by
the Founders, especially in the Bill of Rights. A loss of these freedoms will lead to the reestablishment of the tyranny and
slavery that existed throughout the world prior to the establishment of America by the shedding of much blood during the Revolutionary War begun in 1775.
Of the two stories, the actions of the district attorney in North Carolina are the most obnoxious, tyrannical, and anti-constitutional. This DA subverted the very foundation of respect for
the law while causing undo emotional and financial damages to the lacrosse team members and
their families, all in an attempt to covertly use this case to win a tight reelection race. He should be disbarred
and sentenced to jail. He broke faith with the American system of justice, and if America is to retain its freedoms it must prevent such individuals from obtaining and wielding
this sort of tyrannical power from elective office.
The
Founders, who strongly believed that they were involved in the work of reestablishing freedom in a nation raised up by God,
learned from reading Moses that if liberty was to be maintained “the people,” as in “we the people”
must “provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place them over
them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:” (Ex 18:21) The people
of North Carolina did not follow this council in electing this would be tyrant – a seeker of power, absolute power to
enslave the people.
The local story is a little different. Here a woman posted her beliefs regarding Israel on her personal web site for the entire world to read. While this was her constitutional
right, she may have forgotten her beliefs were not shared by the vast majority of her county neighbors, especially her political
enemies, and the penalty for political naivety required her to resign from two prestigious county committees.
While I totally disagree with her statements regarding Israel, and the Jewish state, I also found her statements scary to one who firmly believes that
the United States is a nation that was raised up by the hand of God, a belief firmly established
and supported by the writings of the Founding Fathers. For a person obviously well educated in the ways of the world she apparently
misunderstands the writings of the Founders, especially the writings of Franklin, Washington, Adams, and Jefferson, and of
the events leading up to the creation of America as an independent free nation, or the creation of America’s Constitution
based on the “perfect laws of liberty” the Founders found in the Bible, and a document framed around Jefferson’s
foundational phrase: “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”
For most county ‘biblical students’ the establishment of Israel by the United Nations in 1948 was biblical prophecy fulfilled. And to see how the Jews,
gathering from all around the world, have created a ‘rose’ out of a wasteland is another miracle that ‘believers’
see as leading to the second coming of the Messiah. I personally believe Harry Truman, president of the United States in 1948, was an instrument in the hand of God when he recognized Israel’s existence at 12:01 a.m. the day
following Israel was founded by the United Nations and began welcoming holocaust survivors
no other nation would accept.
For those wanting to understand how Israel dealt with the Arab opposition one can read Dr. W. Cleon Skousen’s 1967 book –
“Fantastic Victory – Israel’s Rendezvous with Destiny.”
This is a David versus Goliath story, a repeat of the biblical story of how the Israelites were lead out of slavery by Moses,
or how the hand of God, working through General George Washington, to win the unwinnable
Revolutionary War. Another book
worth reading on this issue would be Howard Blum’s, “The Brigade – An Epic Story of Vengeance, Salvation,
and World War II.” It is a story of how a Brigade of 5,000 Israelite soldiers were treated during World War II, and
how they became involved in re-establishing Israel against great
opposition by much of the world.
These are also issues that our local elected leaders should pay close attention too. The fallout from appointing individuals
with hidden tyrannical philosophies to high profile committees can negatively affect future political ambitions.
