America elect Obama to be their king? (4198)
Events during the
past week caused me to shift my column gears. Since America will be soon celebrating the 234th anniversary of the
signing of the Declaration of Independence I had planned to write a series of columns titled “The Miracles that created
America.” Part I of this series was to begin today. This series of columns reflected on the material in my latest book,
“God’s Influence in the Making of America.” Incidentally this book can now be reviewed on line at www.unibook.com , then search for ‘Conkey.’
The event that caused me to change my
column subject was the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Most agree the oil spill is and continues to be a monumental environmental
disaster, a disaster beyond the ability of most of us to comprehend, including the Congress and President Obama. But for all
the rhetoric about this oil spill there is one factor that has not been openly discussed. I refer to the missing factor in
this dialog as “The God Factor.”
Recently I was asked to teach a Sunday
school class. The lesson, based on I Samuel 8, showed to me how history repeats itself when ‘the people’ reject
their God. I Samuel described how corruption was running rampant in ancient Israel (sound familiar) and how the people had
become so disgusted with it they went to Samuel asking him to make them a king so they could be like unto all other nations.
Samuel felt the people had rejecting him but the Lord explained to Samuel the people had not rejected him but had rejected
Him, their God. Then the Lord told Samuel to listen to the people and give them a king. The Lord also told Samuel to tell
the people what the consequences would be for them if He gave them a king. The Israelites rejected the Lord’s council
and continued to ask for a king.
Saul was named king and the consequence the Lord said would happen happened. The Israelites went to war with their neighbors
and were taken captive by the Philistines, similar perhaps, to America being taken captive by today’s illegal immigrant
population. I asked the class why the Lord would allow his ‘chosen people’ to suffer such. They referred me to
Judges 2:21-23. This passage implies that freedom is dependent upon obedience to what Jefferson referred to in the Declaration
of Independence as “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.” These scriptures also state
that the Lord was using the Philistines to “prove Israel.” Is the Gulf oil spill a ‘proving’ test
for America? It could be.
This lesson in government continued with the Israelites being ‘smitten’ by the Philistines and thousands
killed. The Philistines, after capturing the Ark of the Covenant, were then ‘plagued’ by the Lord until they returned
the Ark to the Israelites.
Now back to the oil spill and how it is being using as a crisis, which it is, to further Obama’s
agenda to ‘fundamentally transform’ America from “a land of the free and the home of the brave” to
a land of the fearful where a president, and those that surround him, have declared the Constitution of the United States
null and void by making and implementing ‘presidential’ laws based on crisis’s.
Is there not a parallel here between what happened
to the Israelites anciently and what is happening in America today? I was too young to fully comprehend what happening in
1933 when Hitler was elected president by the people and then quickly took over Germany as its dictator. Hitler lasted only
12 years but he totally destroyed Germany and killed 50 million people, including the ‘cleansing’ of the Jews.
The present administration seems to be ‘cleansing’ prosperous Americans, seemingly to ‘fundamentally change’
America. I often wonder if today’s ‘union thugs’ are similar to Hitler’s ‘Brown Shirts,’
and are being used to instill fear and intimidation as were Hitler’s Brown Shirts? The parallels are truly scary!
If there is a parallel
between the ancient Israelites asking for a king and America asking for ‘a king’ in the 2008 election, I wonder
if the consequences for America will be similar to Israel’s? A scary thought!
History is replete with the stories of 22 nations rejecting
the “laws of Nature and of Nature’s God,” Jefferson’s cornerstones of America’s freedom, and
of the price all nations pay for rejecting the God of all freedom and liberty, the laws the Apostle James referred to as “the
perfect laws of liberty.”
There is no doubt in the minds of most Americans that President Obama and his ‘Czars’ have, and continue
to ‘fundamentally change” America. And they have accomplished much change in only 17 months. And their march continues
– now by their efforts to take over another vital industry – the oil industry.
Wake up America – your freedoms are hanging
by a thread! Only you can change that. Get involved! Ask yourself ‘will America continue to be ‘plagued’
by God, as were the Philistines, until it returns to Him and to the principles of freedom stored in America’s own Ark,
its inspired ‘Foundational Documents?’
