becoming the enemy of liberty? (4263)
It doesn’t seem
to matter where I am, or what the occasion may be, the people I meet with are very concerned about the direction the current
administration is taking our country – the United States of America. In almost every setting people shake their heads
and deplore: “I just don’t understand what Obama is doing!”
They didn’t
understand the stimulus program. That program was supposed to get the people back to work. It didn’t. And now vice president
Biden is saying it is unlikely that America will ever get back the eight million jobs it lost. The government then took over
General Motors and Chrysler - a blatant abuse of federal power. That was followed by the cash for clunkers program that stirred
the pot for several months and then went flat, adding billions to the debt. And the issues kept right on coming, one after
another. It’s as if the administration keeps hoping for a new crisis to take the peoples minds off the current crisis.
The latest crisis is the ineptness of the present administration in dealing with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
As I wrote previously the oil spill could end up being a plague on this country. It just seems as if the administration doesn’t
want this plague to go away – it seems the oil spill is the administration’s crisis to a governmental take over
the oil and natural gas industry. Even when local people join forces to deal with the oil spill locally a different department
of the government steps in and squashes their efforts and enthusiasm to try and prevent the oil from washing ashore, or from
destroying their businesses.
Perhaps the worst of government came to light when the administration asked “experts” to advise them on
how to deal with the existing producing oil wells in the Gulf. The “experts” advised the government to keep the
producing wells producing – in writing. The energy department then lied to the people telling us that the “experts”
had suggested the wells be capped. Something is wrong with what is going on in Washington, and in many of the 50 state capitols
around the nation.
When I get depressed, and it is easy to get depressed over the activities in Washington D.C. today, I often pick up
my scriptures and read them. I read them to learn how other governments have dealt with similar situations. In recent weeks
I mentioned the corruption in the ancient Israeli government that led to the scattering of the ten tribes. The words of Moses
explains what I think is happening today in America. His words: “For, from the days of Cain, there was a secret combination,
and their works were in the dark …”
Another passage, referencing secret combinations, is more explicit. It reads: “And whatsoever
nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain … behold they shall be destroyed …”
Moses’
words could well be referring to what seems apparent to those I visit with that there is a ‘secret combination’
at work in the current administration – and that they are ‘working in the dark’ to destroy those precious
freedoms and liberties that created a nation for all other nations to emulate – America being ‘the shining light’
on the hill of liberty, freedom and prosperity.
The second passage seems to me to be a dire warning both to the current administration and to us the
people that the Lord will not allow the liberties that America has enjoyed for nearly 230 years to be taken from the people.
But I think we the people must be more involved in selecting and electing men and women to public office who will reject such
secret combinations “to get gain and power” and work to restore those principles of liberty the Founders embedded
in America’s foundational documents.
These passages, written years ago, could have been written yesterday for us and today’s administration.
Their ‘secret combinations’ seem to be designed ‘to get power and gain’ for their inner circle of
friends in power. Another passage states: “Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among
you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or
wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also
upon those who built it up (secret combination).”
As I pondered this passage I thought of how ‘the people’ are rising up today, in the form
of thousands of neighborhood groups, Tea Party Patriots, ModernDay Patriots, 9/12ers etc. These people are just beginning
to see how those in power want more power to get more gain, and that they, the people, have ‘awakened to the sense of
their awful situation’ and are now becoming involved – big time.
Every American needs to be aware of their ‘awful situation’
and ponder carefully the promises the candidates are making today – to get your vote. The only promise I need is: “I
promise to faithfully honor my oath to sustain the Constitution of the United States of America, and its principles of freedom
and liberty.” Nothing more, nothing less!
