A week ago last night Joan and I, along with most readers of the Cherokee Tribune watched the President
of the United States deliver his annual State of the Union Report to Congress. We were hoping that we would hear a meaningful
message from President Obama, a message that would fill us with ‘hope,’ a ‘hope’ that America was
beginning to heal from the terrible divide caused by this divisive president and his socialistic administration. How else
can you describe an administration that openly embraces the tyrannical regimes of Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Castro and Chavez,
all tyrannical governments governed harshly by ‘Ruler’s Law.’
But we didn’t feel any ‘hope’
in his message. What we heard instead was a man still campaigning trying to win back those voters who have turned against
him and his socialist agenda with rhetoric and arrogance that defied reality. A year ago this man, whose skills as an orator
are extraordinary, was seen by millions as the savior of America. Last week millions saw him as the destroyer of America.
Both Joan and I were disappointed, very disappointed, but not surprised. For me he is still the polished Pied Piper being
used by the Progressive Movement to ‘fundamentally transform’ America from a nation where all authority is vested
in “We the people” to a nation where all power is vested in ‘them’ – the ‘elite,’
those who speak down at us – the people they see as not capable of governing our own affairs with out the benevolent
helping hand of government who, they, will make all our decisions for us.
The term ‘Progressive Movement’ was used purposely in lieu
of liberal or democrat. I do not believe our neighbors here in Cherokee County who espouse the principles of Thomas Jefferson
and Andrew Jackson; the founders of the Democratic Party, endorse Progressive ideology. Our democratic neighbors are simply
Americans who embrace America’s principles of freedom and liberty as much as their republican neighbors. But Progressives
are different – they, by their own words and actions detest America for what it has become, a “Land of the Free
and Home of the Brave.”
When candidate Obama stated just days before his inauguration that America was going to see “fundamental change”
he wasn’t speaking of making us freer, he was, as it has proved to be, speaking of re-enslaving America with the government
as the taskmaster. Obama, and the Progressive Movement’s goal was, and is, to reshape America to their way of governing,
having America become ‘just another’ member of the United Nations whose laws will be supreme. The Progressives
adopted the slogan “Soak the Rich” in 1909 when they introduced the 16th Amendment, the ‘progressive’
tax Amendment that today truly ‘Soaks the Rich” but is destroying the fundamental principle of individual initiative
and work upon which America was founded. ‘Self interest’ is not selfishness. Self interest leads to freedom. The
poor and less affluent in America have been hoodwinked by the Progressives. Nothing is free, not even health care, it must
be worked for! Providing ‘free health care’ for all by ‘Soaking the Rich’ will surely destroy that
goose that has laid the golden eggs of freedom and liberty beginning in 1787 – the year America’s Constitution
was signed.
In
his State of Union speech President Obama clearly stated his detest for the Constitution of the United States when he told
the nation that he was going to issue a Presidential Executive Order to by-pass Congress, “because Congress was not
moving fast enough.” He does not have the Constitutional authority to issue such an order – but he does it anyway,
as other presidents have done. He attacked the Supreme Court in his speech, a shameful display of arrogance and distain for
a branch of government equal to the presidency itself. The cameras showed the reaction of the Court’s Chief Justice
when he mouthed “not true.”
President George W. Bush has become the ‘blame person” for the Obama administration, and
Bush likely deserves some of the blame for the financial mess America finds itself in today. But, there is one thing that
Bush did as president that I will always be grateful for, making him a Modern-Day Patriot in my eyes. That ‘thing’
for me was his two appointments to the Supreme Court of the United States, appointments that reversed the Progressive leanings
of recent Courts, allowing the Progressives to make such strong gains in America in recent years, especially since Johnson’s
Great Society was passed in 1969. Johnson’s Great Society was the boldest leap forward the Progressive Movement had
made since the early 1900s, that is until Obama’s administration took office determined to implement their “fundamental
changes” based on socialistic principles, not the principles of freedom and liberty the Founders founded America on.
With the 2010
elections beginning it is time for Modern-Day Patriots to get involved in their efforts to preserve those liberties real Americans
still cherish – liberties under attack by Progressives today.
