Prologue…. On Araxis-4 just after it unexpectedly passes through the dimensional
rift…
…Amber is screaming hysterically, so Meredith
makes her way carefully to her in the dark. “Sweetheart, we must go find Corey. He must be scared to death!” Just
then her wrist device beeps and she answers it and the backlight glows giving a small amount of green-tinted light around
her. She sees Danielle’s frightened face. “Yes Danielle. Are you okay?”
“Yes, we’re okay, but in the dark.
I called Quanda and she says the kids at the school are all together in the student Commons, but Prefect Esme sounds like
he is dying. Do you know what is going on?”
“I have a wild guess based on the lightning,
darkness and trembling earth.”
“What is it?”
“I will tell you later. Right now I need
your help in finding Corey. We were right near the Aviary when the sidewalk disappeared and Corey’s stroller rolled
away in the dark. Can you come help us find him?”
Danielle hears the hysteria in Meredith’s
quivering voice.
Kevin answers, “We will be there as quick
as we can Mrs. Royston,”
Kevin remembers passing a worker’s tool
shed a short ways back. He leads Danielle by the hand and they find the shed. He picks up a rock and anxiously pounds the
lock until it breaks. He feels along the door for a light switch. He finds it, but it is not working. He remembers the glow
of Danielle’s device and uses his own to find the workbench by its faint glow. Yes! There is a flashlight and thankfully
it works!
He points it at Danielle. “We have light!
Let’s go find Corey.”
They look at the map under the light. “That
way should be a shortcut.” As they take the shortcut, Kevin hears some ominous sounds of wild animals. He is unfamiliar
with the alien wildlife on this planet and hopes none have gotten loose.
They follow the now very broken pathway towards
the Aviary guided by the flashlight. Kevin and Danielle hear rustling leaves around them. Something is out there! Kevin realizes
whatever is there is being drawn to them by the flashlight. By the sound of the moving thick foliage, he believes the creature
or creatures must be very sizable. He suddenly stops and turns it off and a startled Danielle bumps into him.
The rustling also stops. We are being tracked,
he thinks; But by what? He whispers to Danielle, “I am going to turn the flashlight on for a second and we will run
as far as we can see, then turn it off again, okay?”
“Yes,” she frighteningly whispers
back. They do it and get about ten more feet down the path. The rustling starts and stops again. They run another ten feet
with the same thing happening. Danielle is getting very scared.
Kevin whispers, “We should be getting near
the Aviary. Ask Meredith if she can see our flashlight.”
Danielle presses her device and softly says, “Meredith?”
Meredith whispers back. “There’s
a light coming down the path. Is it yours?”
Before Danielle can answer, she almost stumbles over Corey’s stroller! Danielle
cries when she sees him lying still, belted in on his side. …

A
recent Review...
“When
Rob Joseph first told me he was an author, I thought he was like all the other authors. Basically a no talent quack.
(no offense Rob) but as I started reading his first book, I was truly astonished and surprised to read of characters
as complex and multidimensional as any you would read by RA Salvatore and Robert Jordan, not to mention the story line was
superb.
Right now I have just finished book 4, ‘Everywhere in the
Alpha Dimension’, and I can say with honesty that I’m still surprised at the technological genius that
Mr. Joseph puts in his books. With the twisted genius of Hardison James and the new criminals, the Slarg, I am hoping
that the author will write for many years to come, so that I might enjoy all his books.
Hats off to Mr. Joseph. May all His days be filled with happiness and a good computer.”
