Central Illinois Railroad Company
(“CIRY”) is a federally licensed railroad common carrier. CIRY presently
operates approximately 45 route miles consisting of four divisions, the Centex District in Elk Grove Village, Illinois,
the Lumber and Illinois Northern Districts in Chicago, Illinois,
and the Peoria Division in Peoria, Illinois, presently
serving 33 customers.
Centex
Industrial Park in Elk Grove Village is one of North
America’s largest industrial parks. When developed to its maximum
potential, the number of customers with rail access should exceed 100. The Lumber
and IN Districts serve the old and former Chicago River waterfront areas of South Central Chicago along
Cermak and Blue Island Avenues serving up to 14 mature industries, primarily in the scrap metals and building products industries.
Our rail operating plans –
whether for common carrier rail service or contract switching services – are the essence of simplicity, viz., Serve
the customers. Specifically, we provide the resources, the people, equipment,
and training required to safely offer timely and cost-effective service for our customers.
Our operating programs anticipate orderly increases in equipment, people and systems to meet customer service growth
needs.
The common carrier railroad
train crews operate under the supervision of the General Manager of Railroad Operations.
As a common carrier, in addition to operating trains, the CIRY has a statutory obligation to inspect of all of its
tracks and equipment and to make such repairs as may be required to keep the tracks and equipment in compliance with state
and Federal Railroad Administration regulations.
