When we talk about changes, everyone thinks of the status quo,
but changes are happening in the business world everyday and most are being driven by the current economic upheaval.
I truly believe if we concentrated on building the right mix of rail transportation infrastructure, the jobs created
would more than offset the ones lost due to industry changes and quickly get us out of this economic reversal.
Maybe
to effect the changes, the best way would be to have the head of the Dept of Transportatiion or designee act in the same capacity
we expected an energy czar to act and drive the changes.
I just hope the people in charge recognize the danger
and have the fortitude to face it head-on and not stick their head in the sand and hope it will go away.
Big oil
is the culprit, and they should be heavily investing in alternative energy options now, because like it or not, their goose
will be cooked first when the coming disaster becomes obvious to everyone.
Don't think it can happen fast? Just consider this disaster scenario:
A giant fissure opens clear
to the earth's core in the middle of the ocean seabed. One of two things will happen or both simultaneously. The heat
will turn the water to steam or the water will cool down the core, but this won't be completed until the ocean is severly
depleted and this planet could become a vast wasteland in very short order. This is a very fragile planet
we live on and we have already severely abused it.
I watched the Glenn Beck show last
night, June 19th, 2008, and was amazed how many of the above ideas were presented by his guests, although not for the complete
reason I have put forth in this article.
It is my sincere prayer this article may be taken as the dire warning
it is intended to be and a catalyst to action. Robert Lee Joseph, Author of the Everywhere Book Series
